Terms of Service
Effective date: July 11, 2026 · Version 2026-07-11
These Terms govern your use of Piano Nova, operated by Ivan Shapovalov, an individual based in Cyprus ("we", "us", "Piano Nova"). By creating an account or using Piano Nova, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. The Service
Piano Nova lets you upload music scores, converts them to a playable format, and plays them back, including via connected MIDI pianos. Features and availability may change over time.
2. Eligibility & Account
You must be at least 14 — the age of digital consent in Cyprus. If you are younger, you may use Piano Nova only with a parent or guardian's consent, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You are responsible for your account credentials and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep it current.
3. Uploading Scores
- Your rights: You may upload only scores you have the legal right to use — works you own, works in the public domain, or works you are licensed or otherwise permitted to use. You are solely responsible for the content you upload.
- No infringement: Do not upload content that infringes copyright or other rights. We may remove content and suspend accounts in response to credible infringement notices.
- Fair-use upload allowance. Playing, practising, and re-opening the scores already in your library is unlimited and is never metered. Converting a new upload, however, has a real per-page processing cost, so every paid plan — monthly, yearly, and Lifetime alike — carries the same monthly page allowance. It refreshes at the start of each month and does not accumulate: unused pages do not roll over. The allowance is set generously enough that ordinary personal use will not reach it; it exists to prevent bulk resale and account sharing, not to ration your practice. If you would like to know your current allowance or how much of it you have used, email [email protected] and we will tell you.
- Adjusting the allowance. We may adjust the monthly page allowance where processing costs or usage patterns make the current allowance unsustainable. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before any reduction takes effect, and we will not reduce the allowance below what ordinary personal use of the plan requires. Increases apply immediately and need no notice.
4. Your Content & Licence
You keep all rights to the scores you upload. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content solely to operate the service for you. We do not claim ownership of your content.
5. Subscriptions, Billing & Access
- Paid features require an active plan, billed through Stripe on a recurring basis until cancelled. You can cancel at any time by emailing [email protected]; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period and stops future renewals.
- Access requires an active plan. Lifetime access (see section 6) counts as permanently active and is not affected by this section. If you previously held a recurring subscription and it lapses or is cancelled, in-app access to your uploaded scores and generated files is paused. Those files are retained but locked while you have no active subscription, and may be deleted after 12 months of inactivity. Re-subscribing restores access to any files not yet deleted. So that your own content is never held hostage, you may at any time before deletion request a copy of the original scores you uploaded by emailing [email protected], in line with your data portability rights.
- Prices may change; we will give notice of changes affecting your current plan.
6. Lifetime Access
Where offered, "Lifetime" access means access for the lifetime of the Piano Nova service — for as long as Piano Nova continues to operate. It is not a perpetual guarantee independent of the service. If Piano Nova is permanently discontinued, lifetime access ends. We will give reasonable notice if we plan to discontinue the service.
What Lifetime includes. Lifetime access removes the recurring payment. It does not remove the upload allowance, and it does not impose a stricter one: a Lifetime account carries exactly the same monthly page allowance as a monthly or yearly subscription, on the same fair-use terms set out in section 3. Playback and practice remain unlimited and unmetered.
7. Refunds
If you are not satisfied, you may request a refund within 14 days of your first purchase by emailing [email protected]. For EU consumers, the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal applies to digital purchases. At checkout, by asking us to begin providing the paid digital features immediately and confirming that you understand you thereby lose your 14-day right of withdrawal once provision has begun, you give the prior express consent and acknowledgment required under EU consumer law; the withdrawal right then no longer applies. If you do not give that consent, the standard 14-day withdrawal right is preserved. Lifetime purchases are refundable within 14 days of purchase if not substantially used.
8. Acceptable Use
Do not misuse the service: no unlawful use, no attempts to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service, no uploading malware, and no infringing or harmful content.
Your account is for you. Your account, and any plan attached to it, is for your own personal use. Do not share your credentials with others, and do not sell, rent, or transfer your account. Do not run one account on behalf of a group — a school, a studio, a church, or a class. Each person who uses Piano Nova needs their own account. If you need to cover a group, we are happy to help: email [email protected] about a teacher or school plan.
No resale or bulk processing. Do not use Piano Nova to run a score conversion, transcription, or digitisation service for other people, and do not script, automate, or otherwise bulk-submit uploads. The service is for converting scores you intend to play yourself.
How we enforce this. Where use clearly falls outside personal use — credentials in use across many people or locations, or sustained automated uploading — we may contact you, apply rate limits to the account, or, for serious or repeated breaches, suspend or terminate it under section 10. We will normally reach out and give you a chance to put things right before suspending an account, unless the breach is severe.
9. Disclaimers & Liability
Piano Nova is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Score recognition is automated and may contain errors. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Termination
You may stop using Piano Nova and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms; the version identifier and effective date above will change, and material changes will be communicated by email or in-app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Cyprus, and disputes are subject to the courts of Cyprus, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
